This site is dedicated to poetry lovers who believe that poetry can improve or help the world in some way. If you visited we-love-poems.net in the past, you may remember that the Poems For The World section allowed authors to dedicate their poems, and encouraged readers to donate to charity. We hope that you will use our Facebook page in the same way. Share your Poems For The World and tell us how you are using poetry to comfort or inspire others, or even to help in more practical ways such as fund-raising.

The Home of Poetry - poems.co.uk

In the beginning was poems.co.uk; The Home of Poetry. Launched in August 1998, I developed the original site for a local publishing company. Back then it was quite difficult for individuals to get their work online, so the publisher commissioned this simple web application to allow authors to easily submit their poems, and pay 3 quid per poem published. But as other, often free, options gradually became available on the World Wide Web, the business dried up and the site was scheduled for closure. It seemed a shame to take all the wonderful poems off-line, so I offered to keep the site running myself. However, I was not allowed to keep the poems.co.uk domain name, so in June 2004 the site was transferred to the new domain name of we-love-poems.net.

The site has now been replaced by a Facebook page for poetry authors who wish to dedicate their work for the good of others. All interaction with authors and readers has now moved to Facebook. If you have loved, contributed or supported this site in the past, please do visit the Facebook page and click if you like the idea, to help promote Poems For The World. If you are a new visitor, you are very welcome, and exactly the same applies! Thank you for your support.

One shining example of using poetry to help others can be found at the following link. This site is dedicated to the memory of Yorkshire poet Mr Alfred Weston and beatifully showcases his often moving, often amusing poems, including poems for children and a story about his birth place Dronfield. Here are some personal messages from poets who have contributed and supported this site. These were previously featured on our Poems For The World page, and encourage poetry lovers to do what they can to help others.

Doreen: I have always written ever since my school days, but then had to give it up because of family commitments. I started writing again just over 12 months ago. It is something I have always wanted to do, and I enjoy making people laugh. My work is mainly comedy, although I do write on topical subjects in the news. I decided to try and see if I could get any published when I came across this site and I have not looked back since. I have two sons who are both musicians and I also speak and record poetry as well. I think Poetry is wonderful and can make a difference to someones life.

Neil: Pen Name weak.spot Occupation HGV Driver Inspirations From my early teens I used to write about my feelings, some would call it poetry others just a collection of random thoughts, with the onset of my mid to late teens and my twenties I put the writing away for many years due to demands for time from my employment in the armed forces, not totally though still wrote on and off but never showed anyone let alone kept the work. It was about two years ago I discovered this site, I read through a few poems one struck me, called My Written Emotions by Ashley Mundy, and I sat back in awe, from that day I started to keep my poetry and posted a few using the forum pages to gain confidence in my work by asking what people thought of them and how I could do better, I had little faith in anything let alone poetry at the time as my personal life was in tatters, yet through all the reading and writing of poetry has helped me to regain the person that I once was. Influences over my Poetry The main driving force over my poetry is my feelings and personal circumstances, I have always made no bones over that, my poetry is deeply personal and near always reflects my thoughts or my life in some way, some times cryptically other times more directly, The break up of my second marriage and the surrounding turmoil and the separation from my children had huge impact on both me and my work. The main thing about poetry for me is it has to rhyme no matter what the subject is, yet each to their own on that one. Final thoughts on Poetry Poetry can make you smile, laugh or cry, it can give you wisdom, it can change your mood for better or for worse, it can touch you in places you never knew you could be touched by words, it can express the deepest feeling of joy and sorrow, it can show people that they are not alone, above all it can change lives, poetry changed mine. Things people can do to help Write poetry to aid the cause, give what you can, and above all try and help someone in need.

Jackie: I write under the name of Jackie Tarr and have had some of my poetry published. Although I have been writing for years it is only recently that I allowed a wider audience to read them as I was unsure of the poems quality. Since having published it has become apparent that my poems have been well received. I wrote my first poem as a school homework assignment after studying the First World War poets. It surprised me that this medium could cause so many emotions in that era. When I first googled this poetry site it made me realise that there is still suffering and pain in the world today but over a wider spectrum than that written by Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen and other poets of the time. I submitted a couple of my own poems for this cause. I write mainly because I want to and I like to but the greatest pleasure is seeing the words that I put down being enjoyed by others.
